Please make sure the school is kept informed of any changes to your child’s medical condition or medication. This includes any changes to how much medication they need to take and when they need to take it.
To help us care and support your child with any medical needs during their time at Rastrick, we collect medical information from you on our application form when your child joins RHS. This is needed to give your child the correct care if they come to the medical room unwell and so that we can monitor any medication they need in school.

If your child is taking any medication in the short term e.g. antibiotics, it should be given to the school healthcare professionals who will administer it under instruction.
Student’s may either leave the medication at school for the length of the prescribed course or, if it is required to be taken in the evening, collect their medication at the end of the day.
If your child is taking long term medication, you need to inform the School Health Worker who will arrange a plan of action which may include a healthcare plan to suit your child’s individual needs.
If your child requires an epipen they must carry it with them at all times and a spare must be provided to school to be kept in the medication room.
All students carrying an epipen in school require a suitable healthcare plan, preferably completed by a health care professional.
We do hold two epipens in school for emergencies.
As part of accepted good practice and with advice from the Department for Children, School and Families, our school has established medical practices for children diagnosed with Asthma.
We keep an emergency pack for asthma sufferers in the medical room.
All students with asthma are added to our school medical register. If your child suffers from severe or complex asthma a healthcare plan is required.
If your child has diabetes, our admission form will ask if they are insulin dependent and if so, how this is administered. We will then ensure they have their blood sugar checked as per healthcare plan instructions provided by the Diabetic Specialist Team.
If you have informed us on your admission form that your child has any allergies or dietary needs, this will be recorded on the appropriate medical register within school. Dietary needs are also recorded so that when they go to purchase food items within school, their allergy will appear to staff on screen and at the till points.
In order for secondary schools to administer Paracetamol to students, the consent of parents is required. Our admission form asks for you to sign your permission. This consent will stay on record for the entirety of your child’s schooling at Rastrick.
If paracetamol is required by a student, verbal consent is required prior to administering any paracetamol.
