Rastrick High School Roof Regeneration

At Rastrick High School & Sixth Form we constantly look for ways to improve the environment for our students. This includes internal spaces and the overall building itself.

The money we receive from the Department for Education is invested in teaching for our students. In addition to this, we have a fund for asset management which is for the upkeep of the schools’ buildings.

Some of the schools building and maintenance requirements are quite substantial and would require large amounts of money and unfortunately, our regular funding doesn’t allow for large scale building and renovation projects.

Each year our school submits a CIF bid, Condition Improvement Fund (CIF). This is an annual bidding round for eligible academies and sixth-form colleges to apply for capital funding. The priority for the fund is to address significant condition need, keeping academy and sixth-form college buildings safe and in good working order. This includes funding projects to address health and safety issues, building compliance and poor building condition.

CIF also supports a small proportion of expansion projects. These are for academies and sixth-form colleges rated good or outstanding by Ofsted that can demonstrate a need to expand.

We are delighted to say that we have been awarded £1.5m towards our roof regeneration. This amount of money is amazing for our school. As a school, we cannot take such a large amount of money out of our regular budgets.

The money we have been awarded allows our school to replace 50% of our roof at this stage.

In order for our school to complete the remaining 50% of our roof we would have to resubmit another CIF bid when stage one has been completed. By submitting a second bid we hope to obtain enough funding to complete the remaining 50% of the roof.

Our school was established in 1985 and receiving funding like this enables our school to thrive for many, many years to come. We are extremely pleased that we can future proof our building for our students. Our roof is essential to normal school operations and the knock-on effects of a poor roof can have a huge impact on school life.

Following the official tendering process a suitable company has emerged that meet our very strict requirements.

The roof regeneration will commenced on the 27^th May 2019 and will be completed by December. Our facilities team and the successful contractor’s site management team have worked tirelessly to ensure that there will be minimal disruption to the school during term times. The school and the contractors have agreed that the works will start in a location which will ensure that there is no disruption to our pupils whom are sitting there summer examinations. Our student’s education is our number one priority and we are pleased the approved contractor fully understands and supports this.

The approved contractor has very rigorous safeguarding policies in place, meaning that throughout the roof regeneration programme there will be no interaction between students and contractors. Throughout the upcoming half term our site will be fully prepared to ensure the highest standards of safety for our students, faculty and contractors. We are working hard to ensuring there will be no circumstance where anybody can be injured on site.
